DATING PROFILES

Ausstellungsserie in der Produzentengalerie Projects154, München
Theresienstr. 154, 80333 München
Juli – Dezember 2023

Similar to dating, art is also about the search for connections, exchange, and the desire to explore new horizons. Both areas are deeply rooted in human nature, reflecting the diversity of our experiences and emotions. In both art and dating, the goal is to create relationships that touch, inspire, and challenge us.

Three exhibitions take visitors on a journey through various phases of the dating process: from the exciting uncertainty of „Blind Date,“ where artists come together with a common core theme, to the familiar yet challenging dynamics of „Friends with Benefits,“ where friends pool their strengths, and even to the application of artificial intelligence as a curator (or rather, matchmaker) in „Match made in heaven.“

In „Dating Profiles,“ the traditional boundaries of curatorial work and artistic collaboration are transcended to create space for new forms of cooperation and exchange. „Dating Profiles“ an invitation to be inspired by the unique connections and dialogues that emerge when art and dating intersect.

Opening: 07.13.2023, 6 pm
Exbition: 07.14.-09.05.2023

In this exhibition, I have invited two artists who have never worked together before. Similar to a dating app, the selection is not based on personal relationships, but on artistic creation.

Anna Lena Keller and Neringa Vasiliauskaitė met for BLIND DATE for the first time, got to know each other and… sent their sculptures on a futuristic rendezvous in a utopian future!

In this world, the possibilities and potential of physical presence and emotional closeness are explored, transformed and abstracted. There is a fascinating tension between organic and technological material that invites visitors to reflect on the connection between technology, identity and human experience.

„Friends with benefits“ may evoke romantic notions, but here the focus lies on a different kind of relationship. It’s about professional and personal connection between the artists, influencing and enriching each other’s work. This exhibition reflects the artistic creation that is nurtured through exchange, shared experiences, and inspiring relationships. It is a tribute to the bond between artists and their ability to inspire and enrich each other: intellectually, professionally, and personally. This intimate collaboration culminates in an exhibition by three friends and colleagues, encouraging exploration of the significance of such social relationships in artistic creation. After all, art is rarely nourished by individual talents but rather by the connecting threads of friendship.

The development of artificial intelligence is on everyone’s lips in 2023: „Destruction by AI – Experts urge taking the risks of artificial intelligence seriously“ (World), „The machine is becoming the creator“ (Süddeutsche Zeitung), „Ethics council warns against replacing human decisions with AI“ (FAZ).

But „When will machines finally take our jobs?“ (Die Zeit). I initiated an experiment, entrusting a small yet essential part of my work on this exhibition to Chat-GPT. The selection of participating artists was made by Chat-GPT, though the chatbot is still hesitant about this assignment: „This selection is based on an algorithmic attempt to find a balanced mix of various artistic approaches, media, and themes that facilitate a fruitful dialogue in the exhibition. It is always advisable to examine the artists‘ works more closely and, if necessary, gather additional information about their current works to ensure they align with the exhibition’s concept“ (Chat-GPT).
